USDA Climate Hubs

Climate Hubs work across the USDA and with partners to support climate-informed decisions for robust agriculture, healthy forests, and resilient communities. The USDA Climate Hubs continue to expand upon their priorities: a better understanding of the full range of potential climate change impacts; accelerating development of science-based solutions; informing deployment of adaptation strategies; and building tools for farmers, ranchers, and foresters to understand how to implement climate-informed and nature-based solutions.​

National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation

NNOCCI is a network of individuals and organizations in formal and informal education, the social sciences, climate sciences, and public policy. We are currently working in 184 institutions in 38 states. We share a commitment to using evidenced-based communications methods and providing the social and emotional support needed to engage as climate communicators. By working together we develop the knowledge, techniques, community, and confidence needed to empower our audiences to act on climate change. And by speaking about climate change consistently across the country we are changing public discourse to be positive, civic-minded, and solutions-focused.

US Global Change Research Program: Climate Literacy Guide

Climate Literacy: Essential Principles for Understanding and Addressing Climate Change presents information that is important for individuals and communities to know and understand about Earth’s climate, the impacts of climate change, and solutions. Principles in the guide can serve as discussion starters or launching points for learning about the climate crisis and what’s being done to address it across the world.

The guide aims to promote greater climate literacy by providing this educational and communication framework of principles and concepts.

Kentucky Division of Geographic Information

The Division of Geographic Information (DGI) is responsible for the maintenance of the Commonwealth’s enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services, on-going support of the Kentucky Geography Network, and oversight of the KYFromAbove Program. DGI also serves as a liaison to Federal, State, and Local GIS entities.

Kentucky Water Research Institute (KWRI)

The Kentucky Water Research Institute (KWRI) was founded in 1964 as one of the 54 Water Resources Research Institutes established by the U.S. Congress through the Water Resources Research Act. KWRI facilitates water quality research; watershed management science, planning and education; water and wastewater utility workforce development and policy analysis; and community engagement and research translation.

Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS)

The Kentucky Geological Survey is a state supported research center and public resource within the University of Kentucky that conducts research and provides unbiased information about geologic resources, environmental issues, and natural hazards affecting Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service (UKCES)

The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service provides practical education to help residents, businesses and communities solve problems, develop skills and build a better future. UKCES makes a difference by strengthening Kentucky's farms, food systems and natural resources through innovative research, education and collaboration to improve profitability and sustainability; building the health and well-being of Kentuckians – physically, mentally and economically – to improve quality of life and ensure bright futures for all; and engaging communities to build vibrant economies by connecting businesses and people with extension.

Kentucky Mesonet at WKU

The Kentucky Mesonet, a division of the Kentucky Climate Center, is a statewide monitoring weather and climate monitoring infrastructure with an operations center housed at Western Kentucky University with a network of automated stations that monitor near-surface environmental conditions. The Kentucky Mesonet is recognized as the official source of climatological observations for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as designated by Senate Joint Resolution No. 228 that was signed by Governor Ernie Fletcher on April 5, 2006. The Kentucky Mesonet provides community outreach to communities across Kentucky and provides data for public use. This data is also available in every K-12 classroom throughout the commonwealth to support science and math education.

UK Ag Weather Center

The UK Agricultural Weather Center is housed at the University of Kentucky and provides this weather service for the College of Agriculture, Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Department and Kentucky residents. The weather information is provided by the National Weather Service, National Climatic Center, Midwest Regional Center, and Kentucky Mesonet, as well as various information generated by staff using the Geographic Information System (GIS). 

The Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing (ISM)

The Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing (ISM) at the University of Kentucky is a multidisciplinary collaborative research unit whose primary objectives are to develop and advance sustainable manufacturing principles and practices in Kentucky, the nation and the world. The ISM actively pursues academic research (basic and applied) with the goal of producing new and innovative manufacturing technologies at product, process and systems levels, developing and implementing formal and professional development educational programs in sustainable manufacturing, and engaging in technology transfer/deployment and industry outreach for effective dissemination of the new knowledge generated.
