Dave Van Sanford

Dr. Van Sanford is a wheat breeder and geneticist in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.  His research includes development of soft red winter wheat varieties for Kentucky, inheritance of resistance to Fusarium head blight, and breeding for adaptation to climate change.  He is a 2018-2019 University of Kentucky Research Professorship Award Recipient.  Dr. Van Sanford teaches courses on plant breeding, quantitative genetics and transdisciplinary research in plant and soil sciences.  He enjoys working out, baking bread and working with farmers, millers, bakers, brewers and distillers to develop local grain economies.
